'Ready For Every Challenge': Devdutt Padikkal Looks To Cement His Place In The Test Side

Indian opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal is upbeat about his chances in the Test side after a memorable IPL season and is looking to continue his good form in the A series against Australia to stake a claim for a spot in the home Test team ahead of the upcoming Windies Tests.

"I'm looking to continue the same rhythm and confidence I gained from the IPL and carry that into the A series," says Padikkal.

The young batsman, who was part of the Indian Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka earlier in the year, is hoping to make the most of the upcoming A tour to Australia, which begins in the last week of November, as he eyes a spot in the Test side for the tour of the West Indies in February 2023. "There's a lot of competition. I'm hoping to stake a claim in the A series and then carry that into the home season as well," he says.

Padikkal, who scored a half-century in the practice game against the County Select XI, believes that adapting to the conditions Down Under is key to successful batting.

"The bounce here is a bit more than what we are used to in India, so you got to be a bit cautious about it, and you got to make sure your game is adjusting to these conditions," he says.

"I'm looking to play as many balls as possible and spend more time at the crease to adapt to the conditions."

Looking ahead to the series against Australia, Padikkal is confident that the Indian team can give the hosts a tough fight, despite not having many experienced players.

"We have a very good team, a very good mix of experienced players and youngsters like me," he says. "I'm looking to learn from them, and I'm sure our team can give a good fight to Australia."

Padikkal's confident message sums up his attitude towards his career prospects and India's chances in the Australia series.

"I'm looking to take on the challenge," he says. "I'm ready for every challenge that comes my way."
