Policing public grievances: LG directs Delhi Police to improve public interface

Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal recently directed Delhi Police to improve their public grievance redressal system. The LG reviewed the system and instructed the police to train officers in soft skills to enhance their public interface.

As part of the current system, the Delhi Police have established various facilities and helplines to receive public complaints. These include public facilitation desks at police stations and special vigilance units in every district to handle complaints against police personnel.

The Delhi Police also informed the LG that they use a digitized Complaints Monitoring and Tracking System (CMTS) module to track and monitor complaints, which allows complaints to be logged and resolved at police headquarter, range, district, subdivisional and police station levels.

In addition to online and written complaints, the Delhi Police receive complaints via several other channels.

The LG directed the police to pursue a strategy of proactive grievance redressal with a practical resolution timeframe. He also instructed the department to explore the possibility of introducing a single-window system for the disposal of complaints and feedback.
