Students call for expansion of CM's Breakfast Scheme

Children in Mizoram have petitioned their Chief Minister, calling for the expansion of a breakfast program to include high and higher secondary schools. Currently, the program only caters to students in Mizoram's primary and middle schools.

The petition was initiated by the Young Mizo Association (YMA), the largest and oldest youth organization in the state. Speaking to the media, a representative of the YMA explained that the initiative aims to provide nutritious meals to as many young people as possible. "Many students go to school without having a proper meal," the representative said. "It is important to ensure that students, especially those in the rural areas, come to school with full tummies and ready to pay attention to their lessons."

The current program provides students with rice, chili, and vegetables, and the petition asks for the addition of eggs, meat, and fruit to the menu. Speaking on behalf of the students, one petitioner commented, "We are not saying that this should be a replacement for lunch, but it should be a well-rounded meal that can get us through the morning classes."

The petition has gained attention online, with many supporters sharing the petition on social media platforms. It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the request.
