Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has revealed that Nike promised him a trip to Wimbledon, shedding light on an array of offers he had to decline as he focused on his cricket career. Iyer, who shot to prominence when he scored a hundred on his Test debut against New Zealand in November, is reportedly among the highest-paid cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a recent interview with GQ India, Iyer opened up about his encounters with rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz and his tennis idol, Rafael Nadal. The 23-year-old spoke about his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of India's most sought-after athletes.

Iyer's candid interview also included lighthearted snippets, such as his confession that Nike offered him the opportunity to attend Wimbledon but that he never found time amid his hectic schedule. The cricketer elaborated that he has been busy trying to manage his time effectively. He cited the example of his missing out on the trip to Wimbledon as one of many offers he had to pass on for fear of not being able to give his all to cricket.

"I can tell you one thing: I've never changed. People around me have changed, their mindset, their perspectives, and everything. I've always been grounded and focused on what I want to do," Iyer said. While he may have missed out on the opportunity to meet his tennis idol, Rafael Nadal, or catch a tennis match at Wimbledon, Iyer did get the chance to meet his hero, Cristiano Ronaldo, back in October.

It remains to be seen if the Indian cricketer ever makes it to the Wimbledon finals as a spectator. Still, with his stellar rise to fame andardom, anything is possible, and we might see him gracing the stands at the tennis tournament next year if he manages to score some time away from his busy schedule.
