'One Of The Worst Ever': Trump Rips Autopen Scandal As 'Controversial' And 'Bad Karma'

In a series of tweets, former US President Donald Trump roasted his successor Joe Biden for his use of an autopen signature, calling it "controversial," and "one of the worst ever."

Trump, who himself granted a series of last-minute pardons and commutations before exiting office, also suggested that the current president could face karma for his actions.

The controversy pertains to the use of an automated signing pen, an apparatus that duplicates a person's signature and is commonly used for signing hundreds of documents and allocation of authorisation. Joe Biden has faced criticism for using one to sign a stack of executive orders and pardoning turkeys at a ceremony in the White House.

Trump commented on the matter, saying, "Biden using an Autopen to sign so many Executive Orders & Pardons may be one of the worst things ever done in politics. Bad Karma."

He went on to argue that the usage of the autopen is indeed legal, citing former President Harry S. Truman as the person who started the "trend."

Trump's criticism comes as Biden is set to announce a wave of pardons tomorrow.

The incoming slate of pardons is believed to include dozens of immigrants who were prosecuted for felonies, including some who have been living in the US for decades and have no criminal record.

Many of these people were sentenced to deportation and were given steeper punishments due to their immigration status.

While previous presidents have also issued mass pardons, most have come near the end of their term, not at the beginning like Biden.

Trump concluded his statement by saying, "Also, many of these people were charged with crimes that would not even be a crime if it happened today."

This statement highlights the murky justice system and ongoing struggle for equality and fairness in the criminal justice sector.

Given the political manoeuvring and potential for misuse, the autopen signatures and pardoning powers have become a controversial and divisive topic that is sure to remain in the public consciousness.
