Global Capability Centres (GCCs) Offer Premium Salaries in Software Development, Surpassing Other IT and Non-Tech Sectors

Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are reported to offersignificantly higher salaries in the software development sector, outpacingother IT product and services companies as well as non-tech employers by over50%, according to an analysis by TeamLease Digital. This premium salaryoffering is attributed to the rapid growth of GCCs, which now employ over 1.66million people globally, and their need to uphold global standards.

Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital, explained the reasoningbehind the higher salaries offered by GCCs. In an interview with DH, shestated, “First, GCCs are still a relatively new concept, so they need toattract the right talent over other sectors and retain them. Secondly, GCCstypically look for specialized domain expertise (such as BFSI andmanufacturing) in addition to technical skills at entry-level positions, whereas traditional IT services focus mainly on tech skills.”

At the entry level, GCCs are offering salaries of Rs 7.67 lakh perannum for roles in cloud solutions and enterprise applications management, withthe highest salaries reaching Rs 9.57 lakh per annum in cybersecurity andnetwork administration. For more specialized roles, such as penetration testingand data science, the average annual salary can go as high as Rs 11.8 lakh. These figures notably exceed the pay offered by traditional IT services andnon-tech sectors.

For example, in cybersecurity and network administration, GCCsoffer 40.12% higher salaries compared to other sectors, with IT companiespaying Rs 6.83 lakh per annum and non-tech employers offering Rs 5.17 lakh perannum. Similarly, in cloud solutions and enterprise applications management, tech companies offer Rs 6.07 lakh per annum, while non-tech firms pay Rs 6.53lakh per annum—more than what IT companies are offering due to the increasingadoption of cloud technologies across sectors like banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI), healthcare, and manufacturing.

The demand for software development and engineering talent, especially in fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML),is also on the rise. Entry-level positions in these domains are expected to seean average salary of Rs 9.37 lakh per annum in GCCs, compared to Rs 6.23 lakhper annum in IT products and services and Rs 6 lakh per annum in non-techsectors by the end of the current fiscal year. In FY25, the data management andanalytics domain is projected to see average salaries of Rs 8.73 lakh per annumin GCCs, Rs 7.07 lakh per annum in IT products and services, and Rs 6.37 lakhper annum in non-tech sectors.

For other critical roles, IT companies are offering salariesranging from Rs 9.7 lakh per annum to Rs 6.9 lakh per annum, while non-techsectors are offering between Rs 9.4 lakh per annum and Rs 6 lakh per annum.

Sharma also noted, “While IT services have seen a slowdown infresher and entry-level hiring over the past 2-3 years, it is the GCCs andnon-tech sectors that have stepped in to offer promising opportunities andattract young talent.”

In summary, GCCs are rapidly becoming a major player in the jobmarket by offering competitive salaries and specialized roles, making them anattractive option for job seekers, especially in the tech domain.
