Just after 8 am in Atlacomulco, a train collided with a double-decker bus. Eight people have lost their lives and 45 are injured with the tragedy captured on camera.

The footage of the horrific incident shows the bus attempting to cross the train tracks before a freight train crashes into it. The bus driver presumably missed the audible cues from the approaching train and drove onto the tracks giving little time to react.

According to reports, the bus was carrying 50 passengers, and most of the fatalities and injuries are attributed to those on the upper deck, as reported by local authorities.

The train conductor managed to apply the brakes but not in time to avoid a catastrophic collision. Authorities from various emergency services attended the scene and the area is currently closed off to the public.

The Mayor of Mexico, Andres Lajous, has since released a statement sending condolences to the families of the victims and stating that an investigation will occur to determine the cause of the accident.
