Hyderabad: Two Men Losing Rs 1.65 Crore Highlights Surging Online Fraud Cases

Hyderabad- Two men became victims of online fraud, leading to a cumulative loss of Rs 1.65 crore. One victim lost Rs 1.38 crore in a fake stock trading scheme, while another was defrauded of Rs 27.5 lakh in a cryptocurrency scam. The incidents demonstrate the sophistication of fraudsters and the importance of public alertness.

The first victim, a 48-year-old businessman, was attracted to a fake online trading group. Initially, he was encouraged to invest a small amount, and he quickly received a return. This prompted him to invest larger sums; however, he could not withdraw his earnings without paying additional charges. In the second incident, a 30-year-old resident of Chandrayangutta was deceived by a scammer on a matrimonial website who promised marriage and persuaded him to invest in bitcoin. The victim invested his savings and borrowed money, totaling Rs 27.5 lakh. He attempted to withdraw the funds but was asked to pay a 10% tax. Both victims filed complaints with the Hyderabad cybercrime police.

Officials warned the public to invest only in recognized platforms and be cautious with online relationships. They urged victims to report cybercrime on the official website or through a dedicated helpline. These cases highlight the growing sophistication of online fraudsters and the urgent need for greater public awareness.
