In a sad and shameful incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped in Hyderabad. The incident came to light after the girl filed a complaint with the local police station.
According to the police, the girl, accompanied by her sister, had gone to see a movie at a local theatre. While her sister stayed in the auditorium, the victim went to the restroom.
A theatre staff member allegedly gained entry into the women's restroom and raped the girl. The victim returned to her seat traumatized and did not speak about the incident to anyone for a while.
After she reached home, she realized that she was pregnant. This realisation made her disclose the crime to her parents, who then approached the police.
The Hyderabad police have booked the theatre staff on charges of rape under the POCSO Act. The staff member, a minor, was detained and an investigation is ongoing.
"This incident is shameful and heartbreaking. We will ensure that the accused is brought to justice," said Sri Venkatesham, Hyderabad's Commissioner of Police.
The incident has sparked outrage across the city and highlights the lack of safety measures in public places.
"We need to have more strict and ethical safety measures, especially in public places like theatres," said Prathyusha, a Hyderabad-based citizen.
"How can we trust anyone in such places when the administration fails to protect its citizens?" she asked.
