Man assaults bouncer, pulls gun after being refused entry to Pune restaurant

A chaotic scene unfolded late Sunday night in Pune city, when a group of men were refused entry to the Elephant & Co. Restaurant and Bar, and one of them attacked the bouncer and pulled a gun on him.

skirmish erupted outside the upscale eatery on Lane No. 5 of Koregaon Park, at around 10:30 pm. The accused, aged 25 and a resident of Poona Builders Colony, and his friends arrived at the restaurant in a Toyota Innova MPV. They were denied entry because the venue was at full capacity, according to the manager of the restaurant, Rajendra Patil.

Patil said that the man book the car and abruptly walked towards the entrance of the restaurant. When the bouncer, Ravindra Kanhere, asked the man to follow the usual protocol and register his details, he allegedly attacked Kanhere with a fist to his face.

A witness and friend of the attacker said 'he was not aware of what had transpired between them until he saw the man hitting Kanhere.'

This is when the situation escalated further, friends of the attacker then pulled out a gun and passers-by scattered in panic.

The attacker and his friends fled the scene shortly after, but describe the attacker as being "extremely angry."

The attacker, who has been arrested, is a real estate agent according to his friend, and is believed to be involved in local politics through the Republican Party of India (RPI).

The incident is currently under investigation, and police have filed a report pending further legal action.

Conclusion: This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in India, where there has been a long-standing culture of unchecked violence and guns. Recently, though, India has seen a surge in gun violence, leaving many experts and citizens questioning the accessibility to weapons.

Many civilians are armed, but this is not enough to protect them from those who are intent on committing violence, highlighting the need for improved security and policing.

The incident is a disturbing reminder of the lack of security at public venues and the prevalence of firearms in Indian society.
