Incidents of eve-teasing, lewd comments, and indecent gestures are on the rise in significant areas of Bathinda, Punjab, leaving women and girls worried and feeling insecure.

Recently, three young men attempted to kidnap a woman from Giddarbaha near Fouji Chowk, a crowded intersection, in broad daylight. Luckily, the woman shouted for help, and the accused fled the scene. However, the police have yet to arrest them.

Ajit Road area, which has many coaching institutes, is particularly dangerous for women. Girls are harassed while going to and from the institutes by motorbike-riding young men. Often, victims don't report these incidents for fear of social stigma. In many cases, the victims are also away from their families, adding to their fears.
