Water worries:

Corporators target rogue RO plants as viral fevers sweep Nellore

Accused of doling out dubious detoxification, errant RO plant

operators are feeling the heat as corporators move to enforce

standards.

Representing Nellore municipal corporation, elected

officials have kicked off inspections to ensure that Reverse

Osmosis (RO) water plants adhere to norms.

RO plants are mandated to possess the International

Organization for Standardisation certification to operate, a

requirement some operators flout.

RO plants without the requisite certification pose a

serious health risk to the public, warn experts.

With an acute water shortage, Nellore residents have

little alternative but to rely on RO plants for drinking

water.

"Some RO plant operators gather water from taps,

pumps, and other unverified sources, without purifying

it, for sale," said Kartham Pratham Reddy, 14th

Division (Balaji Nagar) Corporator.

Reddy, who met Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan

during a Public Grievance Redress System session,

submitted a representation highlighting the issue and

requesting action.

He urged authorities to conduct raids on

unscrupulous RO plants to protect public health.

Several locals attended the meeting to bring the

issue to light.

With corporators stepping up their efforts to hold

rogue operators to account, Nellore residents may

soon enjoy cleaner, safer drinking water.
