Indians leading the way in digital health adoption

Indians are among the fastest adopters of digital health solutions with 70% utilizing wearables, apps, and tech-based tools and one in four Indians already using AI-powered health agents.

According to a recent report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), India is pioneering the way in which digital tools are being used to enhance the healthcare experience. Comparatively, adoption in the West is lagging behind, with BCG terming it as "digital health awakening".

The report demonstrates that India's progressive approach to digital health is driven by the nation's young population, exponential smartphone penetration, and innovative startups. It also seems that the pandemic has acted as a catalyst to speed up the adoption of these technologies as virtual solutions helped bridge the gap when access to physical healthcare was restricted.

However, there are still significant barriers to overcome, the main one being the concern around data privacy and security. Nearly 40% of the respondents in the BCG survey cited this as a reason for not adopting digital health solutions. Yet, with five million healthcare apps predicted to be downloaded this year, tech-based health solutions are expected to continue to grow and develop across India.

The potential for these advancements to improve accessibility to healthcare for millions of people across the country is an exciting prospect for healthcare professionals and patients alike.
