Pakistan's fast-bowlering talent Usman Khan Shinwari has retired from international cricket, having turned 34 on Monday. The right-armer represented Pakistan in 34 international matches across one Test, 17 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, taking a total of 66 wickets.
Shinwari's standout ODI performances came against Sri Lanka at Sharjah and Karachi, where he took five-wicket hauls, the latter of which came in a contest his side lost by just one run. His only Test appearance came in Rawalpindi against Bangladesh, where he took three wickets across his two innings.
"I have earned my living, honoured my family and fulfilled my desire through cricket, and quit before my cricket career becomes a burden on my family," Shinwari said in a statement.
"I have no complaints about my career. I was rewarded opportunities at the highest level due to my performances, and I am happy what I achieved. I am leaving with a satisfied heart."
Despite his retirement, Shinwari will continue to play domestic cricket, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) interim chief selector, Shahid Afridi.
"He wants to focus on domestic cricket and is expecting to make a comeback to the national side in the future," said Afridi. "Cricket is looking for such players who can bowl 90 miles per hour, and Usman has this ability."
"His decision to retire from international cricket is understandable, and I am sure he will continue to contribute to domestic cricket and will stay in the eyes of the selectors."
