Indian National Congress (INC) leader Karti Chidambaram's father has been arrested, and now tongues are wagging over an AIADMK MLA fetching up in the nation's capital for a confab with the BJP's heavyweight leaders.

MLC Sengottaiyan from the AIADMK confirmed that he met Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi on Sunday. He declined to discuss the specifics of the meeting, saying that it was purely to convey "complaints and demands of the state" to the BJP leadership.

The Tamil Nadu MLA emphasized that the AIADMK and its allies are "firmly with the BJP on the national perspective...". He added that the situation in Tamil Nadu, where the state's ruling party is enmeshed in a deep political and health crisis, was also discussed.

This comes after Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, was arrested on Monday after questioning in relation to a money laundering case.

The INC has since criticized the BJP-led government for "using probe agencies" against the opposition.

The political stakes are perceptibly shifting in Tamil Nadu with the AIADMK appearing to lean heavily in the BJP's favour, and the INC seemingly seeking to recoup lost ground.
