Jagadeesan named new Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy skipper

S Sai Kishore, who led Tamil Nadu in the last two years, is not named in the 16-member squad as he is currently recovering from a finger injury and could miss the first two games. Veteran spinner M Siddharth, who played just one match last season, has been named as the vice-captain.

Left-handed opener C Hari Nishaanth has also been included in the squad after recovering from COVID-19. He missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Fast bowler M Mohammed, who played for India in the T20 series versus New Zealand, is also part of the squad.

The team is set to play its first match against Odisha on January 13 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Face of the franchise Ravichandran Ashwin is also named in the squad, although his participation is subject to clearance from the BCCI.

This comes after the board revealed the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Kerala, with the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Washington Sundar, and Ashwin slated to appear. The board has handed debuts to captain Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore and vice-captain M Siddharth.

With a lot of excitement brewing up for the new domestic season, fans can expect tight competition as players look to make their mark for national selection.

All eyes are set on the new captain, Jagadeesan, as he looks to take Tamil Nadu to greater heights this season.
