Drain and irrigation cleanup just got smarter and more efficient thanks to a pioneering effort by the Nellore municipal administration. They have taken on the challenge of pioneering the state's first implementation of the All Powered Robotic Sorting System (APRSS) to remove silt build-up. Speaking at the implementation trial of the system, which was conducted in collaboration with Zenco Robotic Mechine (ZRM), Nellore Municipal Commissioner Y O Nandan expressed his satisfaction with the results and outlined the necessity of such a system. He pointed to the health hazards and viral risks posed by silt-covered drains, which also cause drain water to flow onto streets during rainy seasons. With the directive of Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana to remove silt from drains and canals in a phased manner, the Commissioner hopes that the APRSS will ease the financial and labor burdens of the process.
The innovative APRSS technology was tested at the Ramurthy Nagar major drain and showcased the capacity to remove silt from deep drains, canals, and wells while also reducing costs and saving time.
This news highlights the potential for innovative solutions to address longstanding urban challenges.
