Civic body's mortgage scam exposed, TDP MLC alleges racket

The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has accused the Nellore civic body of engaging in a massive mortgage release scam. TDP MLC PVN Varma has demanded the resignation of the Greater Nellore Municipal Corporation (GNMC) commissioner and an investigation into the alleged irregularities.

According to Varma, the GNMC has misused its powers to release mortgages of some individuals, leaving behind homebuyers and original lenders suffering. He alleged that municipal commissioner Seshagiri, who was also the former director of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, had released mortgages worth Rs. 129 crore without any proper approval.

Speaking to the press, Varma said, "This is a huge scam which has been going on for a long time. The then urban habitat development board director Seshagiri has released mortgages worth Rs 129 crore without any approval. He has done so much injustice to the people. The government should take action against him and conduct an inquiry."

The TDP MLC also questioned the silence of the Governor and the Chief Minister on such a crucial issue involving the municipality's rampant corruption and blatant misuse of power. He alleged that the scam also involved other senior officials in the state and municipal administration.

Varma has demanded that the state government conduct an in-depth investigation into the scam and sternly punish those involved, ensuring that such incidents are not repeated.

This news has shocked citizens, who now wonder how deep such corrupt practices run in the local administration and how many more such scams exist in other municipalities across the state.
