Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed criticism towards the Centre's decision to host Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, citing the "genocide" that has been propagated against the Palestinian people.

This decision has sparked controversy as the Palestinian Authority has long-standing allegations of human rights violations and genocide against the Israeli government.

Smotrich's visit to India is his first official visit as a member of the Israeli cabinet. Despite the controversy surrounding his attendance, Smotrich has stated that he plans to focus on strengthening security and trade relationships between the two countries during his visit.

"We perceive Israel as a truly special partner in South Asia, and we want to expand our relations with India in various fields," Smotrich told reporters after his meeting with Indian officials.

Indian officials have not yet commented on Vijayan's criticism.
