Bus Service in Bengaluru Draw Thousands of Complaints Every Year

Thousands of complaints regarding the bus service in Bengaluru pour into the BMTC control room and its WhatsApp line every year. According to reports, the average number of complaints filed annually ranges between 8000 to 10,000. Residents of the city take to Twitter to voice their concerns as well, tagging the Bangalore Traffic Police and BMTC handle to register their complaints.

The complaints vary in nature, ranging from requests for towing away of abandoned buses, to verbally abusive drivers and conductors, and buses driving off without picking up passengers. Some of the complaints include:

- A rider complaining that her bag got stuck in the bus door as a result of which she injured herself while trying to free the bag

- Another rider accusing a conductor of misbehvaior and walking away with his money

- Several complaints of rude behaviour and unhelpful nature of the staff

In response to a complaint on Twitter regarding the misbehavior of a conductor, BMTC responded saying, "We apologize for the inconvenience. Kindly provide the details on our customer care number, and your complaint will be looked into."

A resident of Bengaluru, Raghav, says, "I have taken a bus sometimes, and honestly, I prefer not to. The conductors and drivers are often rude and behave as if they are doing a favor to you by allowing you to board the bus. And God forbid you try to argue or complain, they'll make your life hell."

While the number of complaints against BMTC averages around 100 per day, there has been a spike in complaints in the last few years.
