India produced a thrilling performance to beat Korea 4-2 in the women's Asia Cup hockey Super 4s at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat on Tuesday.
With the win, India stayed alive in the tournament, with a semi-final spot against Malaysia on Thursday. A loss would have meant their elimination.
India got off to a confident start, with striker Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke finding the net in the fourth minute to give her side an early lead. But Korea quickly leveled the score through a field goal from Seung Ju Lee.
The Koreans then took the lead for the first time just before the end of the first quarter, with Ji Hye Park scoring from a penalty corner.
It was a tense second quarter, with both sides having chances to score but stout defending from both goalkeepers kept the score at 2-1 going into halftime.
But India turned on the style in the second half, with Sangita Kumari and Lalremsiami scoring in the third and fourth quarters to put their side ahead.
Rutuja Dadaso Pisal then scored India's fourth goal, before Jung Jin Lee scored a late consolation goal for Korea.
Afterwards, India's Sangita Kumari spoke of the determination among the squad to keep their campaign alive. "We were mentally prepared for this match and we wanted to win at any cost," she said. "We were confident throughout and we never lost hope, we kept trying to score goals and it paid off."
The winner of the India-Malaysia clash on Thursday will qualify for the August 6 final, where they will face either Japan or China.
The Indian team will be hoping to continue their recent dominance over Malaysia, after beating them 4-0 and 6-0 in their previous two encounters at this tournament.
