Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi delivered a scathing rebuke of Pakistan at the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday, labeling it a "failed state" that trafficks in "propaganda and terror."
A day after Pakistan's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Zulqarnain Chheena, alleged that India was committing human rights abuses in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India hit back at Pakistan for its "vichya sarkar" (mendacious government).
India said Pakistan was "addicted to propaganda and terror," adding that the "failed state" was "shorn of any credibility."
"Pakistan is a country which has dwarfed itself by its own miseries and tragedy. It is a state which traffics in terror and crimes against humanity," Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi said.
He further stated that Pakistan's rhetoric was built on "falsehoods and fabrications," and was "replete with misleading assertions and deliberate distortions."
Tyagi also warned that Pakistan's "vested interests in fomenting terrorism and destabilizing India" posed a threat to regional and global peace.
This verbal clash comes in response to recent accusations made by India at the UNHRC against Pakistan for fostering terrorism on Indian soil. While this appears to be the status quo between the two South Asian countries, the latest remarks reveal that India is becoming more emboldened in condemning Pakistan's behavior and is willing to call out its hostile actions against India more publicly and bluntly.
