In a recent press conference, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Gaurav Gogoi accused the Assam Chief Minister of weaving lies to cover up corruption.
The shocking claims come after Assam's Chief Minister, who has been at the forefront of exposing previous corruption scandals, has seemingly been avoiding questions regarding the ongoing corruption allegations within his own party.
"It is astonishing that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has vowed to fight corruption at all costs, is now employing tactics of deception to evade questions about the corrupt within his own party," said Gogoi.
Gogoi further explained how the current administration has been proactive in addressing corruption in previous governments, stressing the need for the same transparency from the present CM.
"The current government has set a high bar for itself in combating corruption. Multiple agencies, such as the SARS, EC, and CBI, have successfully investigated and charged individuals who have violated the public's trust," he explained.
"In the interest of transparency and accountability, we must ask the same questions of those in power today," he continued.
As reporters scrutinized his surprising statement, Gogoi further dived into specific allegations.
"There are far too many red flags being raised about the processes and practices within the current administration. From suspicious contracts awarded to fictitious entities to the flagrant abuse of power for personal gain, Gogoi stated.
"We demand that the Chief Minister come clean on these allegations or be prepared to face the consequences," Gogoi concluded.
While the Chief Minister has not responded to these claims, citizens are hopeful that truth will surface and that justice will be pursued.
