Shivam Dube Credits Work with Morne Morkel for Improved Showing with the Ball

Shivam Dube has credited the work he has done with Morne Morkel behind his improved showing with the ball. The Indian all-rounder credited the South African for helping him add the crucial aspect of control to his bowling and admitted he had way more confidence against England.

"When I started working with Morne Morkel, I realized bowling in the right areas is very important. I am someone who likes to hit the deck hard. I wanted to bowl fast and with that, I lost control. I used to bowl full tosses and no-balls, and that was a natural tendency. I was trying to bowl fast, and I realized I was lacking control," Dube said at the post-match press conference after the first T20I against England.

"But when I started training with Morne, he helped me a lot, especially when I started bowling with a new ball. He told me, 'You have the ability, you have the pace, you just have to maintain your line and length.' He told me to bowl with a plan, and when I started doing that, I saw the results," he added.

Dube played a crucial role in India's win over England, picking up three wickets and giving away just 40 runs from his four overs. He was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant showing with the ball.

"After this performance, I have way more confidence now. My strength is bowling, and I feel I can take wickets. I am really happy I got the chance to bowl and got the rewards," he said.

The 27-year-old, who made his India debut last year, has played four ODIs and as many T20Is so far. He has been regularly playing for Rajasthan in domestic cricket and has been impressive. His performances didn't go unnoticed, and he was picked in the Indian squad for the England tour.

"When I play for Rajasthan, I get to bat as an opener, and I have been successful. But when you play for India, you have to be ready to bat at any position. When I was told I will be batting at number three, I adjusted myself. I have to be prepared to do whatever it takes for the team," he said.

"When I came to the Indian team, I used to think a lot. But now, I am more confident. I have been practicing with India A as well, and that has helped me improve my game. When I am batting, I am more confident in my ability now," Dube added.

With Hardik Pandya injured, Dube has capitalized on his opportunity with some crucial performances. With the second T20I slated for Saturday, Dube will be hoping he can put in another impactful all-round performance.
