Tamil Nadu's Minister of Health, Muthamma, inspected special camps under Ungaludan Stalin in Salem on Saturday. The camps, operated by the Tamil Nadu Stalin Government's Urban Development Department, are designed to provide shelter and essential services to the state's vulnerable populations.
The visit comes after concerns were raised about living conditions and allegations of corruption within the camps. Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Muthamma stated that her department would take "strict action" against any officials found guilty of misconduct.
"The camps were established to provide a safe haven for those in need, but they have been marred by allegations of corruption and mismanagement," said Muthamma. "We will not tolerate any abuse of power or misappropriation of resources."
During the visit, Muthamma met with camp residents and conducted interviews with residents and staff to ascertain the quality of the facilities and services provided.
"I want to assure the people of Tamil Nadu that we will not rest until we have completed our investigation into these camps," the minister continued. "Any flaws in the system will be addressed, and necessary improvements will be made."
This inspection is part of the government's ongoing efforts to ensure that all welfare initiatives provide the necessary support and services to those in need.
