recalling a humorous anecdote, Jemimah Rodrigues says she and her fellow cricketers Varun Chakravarthy and Prithvi Shaw spent hours chatting with Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma at a restaurant before they were all told to leave. But the group was in no hurry to go and ended up spending even more time there.
The incident, which happened years ago during a tour of New Zealand, became a source of laughter for the Indian cricketers. Rodrigues, who made her ODI debut for India in 2018, said the experience tested her negotiation skills.
"There were a few of us cricketers from different generations at this restaurant, having a fun evening. It was me, Varun Chakravarthy, Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli, and Anushka Sharma," Rodrigues wrote in a Twitter thread.
"At one point, the management asked us to leave as they wanted to close the restaurant, but we were having so much fun. We negotiated with them to stay on. Varun and I were trying to act cool, but we were so not used to hanging out with such senior people," she said.
The cricketer further revealed that she and her teammates stayed at the restaurant for another two hours, with Varut serving as the DJ and Anushka doing the anchoring.
"We finally left the place, but only to another restaurant, where we continued with the fun night. Varun played music for all of us to dance. It was a memory I will forever cherish," she added.
Rodrigues also shared another incident when she accidentally called Kohli "Papa" during her first tour with the Indian team.
"I also called Virat Kohli 'Papa' on my first tour with the Indian team. I was so nervous and it was my first 'How are you?' to him," she wrote.
"I call him Kohli 'Anna' now, and he smiles at me each time," she added.
