Andre Onana's disappointing spell at Old Trafford could be set for a reprieve after the Cameroon goalkeeper secured a loan move to Trabzonspor.
The 25-year-old was squeezed out of competitive contention amid the arrival of Senne Lammens on deadline day, with Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson also ahead of him in the pecking order.
Onana, who moved to Manchester United from Ajax for 35 million in July 2020, is now poised to spend the rest of the season in Turkey. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to secure a more permanent move away from Old Trafford next summer.
The move represents a fresh start for Onana, who made just two appearances for United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hasn't played under new boss Eric ten Hag.
He was banned for a year in February 2022 after testing positive for doping, but his suspension was reduced to seven months late last year.
He returned to action for the Under-23s, but ten Hag opted not to call upon him during the opening weeks of the season, with Lammens's arrival confirming his exit.
Speaking after Lammens's arrival, ten Hag said: "We have three very good goalkeepers in the squad already and, by signing Senne, we have added another option in that position.
"He is a goalkeeper with plenty of experience at a high level of football and he is a talented and athletic player who fits the profile we want in that position."
