Nellore police arrested four people and seized 6 kg of ganja from them on Thursday. This is the largest seizure of narcotics in the district so far this year according to authorities.
The drugs were found tucked away in the centre of wooden logs on the outskirts of Narayana Puram, a neighbourhood in Nellore. Based on a tip, officers pursued the suspects who were travelling in a car and a two-wheeler. The vehicles were intercepted on the Nellore-Venkatachalam road, where the logs were found during a search. The logs were split open later at the police station, revealing the narcotics stuffed inside.
"The ganja was probably being transported to Nellore for consumption or further distribution," said a police officer. "We are questioning the suspects to determine the source and scope of the illegal operation they were involved in," he added.
This recent seizure highlights the extent of the drug problem in the district and signals the need for more comprehensive measures to prevent drug trafficking and punish perpetrators, according to authorities.
