Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh's ostracization continues, says Ravichandran Ashwin

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has pointed out the ostracization of young Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh, saying it's not a new thing since the era of Gautam Gambhir began.

Arshdeep has been regularly benched with India preferring to play with an extra spinner and batting depth. This statement has sparked debates amongst Indian cricket fans and pundits alike.

The narrative of Indian cricket has long been dominated by the seniors who have been in the team for years. However, with the emergence of new talent, there has been a lot of shuffling in the lineup, with the newbies being given a chance to shine.

Speaking on his induction to the team and subsequent disappearance, off-spinner R. Ashwin spoke with a Bengali daily and pointed out that Arshdeep has been regularly snubbed by the team despite his clear talent, suggesting that the team management prefers to have an extra spinner and batting depth.

"It's not a new thing since the Gautam Gambhir-led era. I remember when Bhuvneshwar Kumar and I were pushed aside from the team for a brief period for no apparent reason," said Ashwin.

"I was told that I would be playing overseas Tests, but I never got a chance to play. It (Arshdeep's case) is no different," he added.

The spinner has had a tremendous career, winning several games for India. However, his absence from the current Test squad against Australia has surprised many of his fans.

The dropping of Arshdeep from the ODI squad against South Africa, despite performing well, also raised a few eyebrows.

Only time will tell if the young talent will be given a chance to shine for India again.
