Celebrate 50 Years of Excellence in Space with ISTRAC
India's Space Research Organization (ISRO) telemetry, tracking, and command network, ISTRAC, recently celebrated the start of its Golden Jubilee Year in Bengaluru. ISTRAC, which has been the backbone of India's space program for the past 50 years, was established on September 6, 1976. The network currently provides Earth observation, space science, interplanetary missions, and launch vehicle operations for ISRO. ISTRAC's ground stations are spread across India and abroad and are essential for deep space tracking and space situation awareness, supporting both Indian and international missions.
Speaking at the event, Dr. V. Narayanan, Secretary of the Department of Space and Chairman of ISRO, praised ISTRAC as the "silent backbone" of India's space missions, highlighting its dedication, innovation, and resilience. Looking back on the network's history, it evolved from a single station at Sriharikota to a global network with world-class capabilities in mission operations, deep space tracking, and space surveillance. To mark the occasion, Dr. Narayanan also inaugurated ISTRAC's newly designed website, Spandan, and released a coffee table book showcasing the organization's achievements and milestones.
Congratulations to ISTRAC on 50 remarkable years of excellence in space exploration. Looking forward to what the next 50 will bring!
