Tax defaulters in Nellore have been told to appear before the National Lok Adalat on Saturday 13th September or face the consequences.
Commissioner Y.O. Nandan warned that if tax defaulters failed to appear, they will face imprisonment of up to three years. He stressed that this was not just a matter for ordinary defaulters but also for those with huge amounts of arrears.
He emphasized that this was a good opportunity for defaulters to waive off their cases and warned that criminal cases would be filed if they did not take this chance. He also informed them that the National Lok Adalat would take place every three months at the District Chief Court premises under the auspices of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and is organized by the orders of the Supreme Court. Legal action will be taken by the DLSA against those who have huge amounts of arrears.
In addition to property tax, drinking water tax, vacant land tax, and trade license tax, it was also warned that building owners who have undertaken unauthorized constructions or violated permits within the NMC limits would face strict action.
It is hoped that this reminder will incentivize debtors to attend the National Lok Adalat and clear their debts.
