PM Modi highlights importance of digitizing Indian manuscripts to curb IP theft

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of digitizing Indian manuscripts to curb intellectual property theft at the Gyan Bharatam festival. He highlighted that this task is vital to reclaim India's knowledge legacy and foster a self-sufficient nation.

PM Modi emphasized the rich knowledge economy of India, mentioning how it has survived and thrived over millennia despite its limited share in the global intellectual property system. Unfortunately, the country loses grip of its vast knowledge heritage because of intellectual property theft and piracy. Therefore, he stressed the importance of digitization to make the country self-reliant in the knowledge arena.

He praised the efforts of the National Manuscripts Mission, discussing how it has digitized over one million manuscripts in various Indian languages. The goal of this mission is to protect India's cultural heritage and make it accessible to the world, achieving intellectual property rights protection in the process.

The Prime Minister concluded his address by urging all stakeholders to come together to make India a hub of knowledge once again, kicking out any parasites on our knowledge economy by digitizing our vast store of information and cultural heritage.

This address by PM Modi underscores the importance of protecting and promoting India's knowledge economy to the world and pushing the self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) movement.
