"Cyclone Remal Ravages West Bengal and Bangladesh: Warnings, Evacuations, and Destruction"

A severe cyclonic storm named 'Remal' struck coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh, prompting high wave warnings and evacuation measures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service (INCOIS) issued warnings for West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman, Nicobar, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, with wave heights reaching up to 7.1 meters. The bulletin recommended the suspension of fishing activities, regulated shipping, and evacuation of coastal hutment dwellers to safer places.

Cyclone 'Remal' made landfall between Sagar Island and Khepupara, affecting coastal regions with winds up to 135 kmph and heavy rainfall. Widespread power outages occurred due to fallen power poles and uprooted trees in both Bangladesh and India. Over one lakh people were evacuated from vulnerable areas in West Bengal before the cyclone struck. The cyclone caused flooding, damage to homes, farmland, and infrastructure.

The landfall process began late Sunday evening, with Remal flattening fragile dwellings, uprooting trees, and causing one injury from debris in the Gosaba area of the Sundarbans. The cyclone's impact led to significant destruction and posed risks to the safety and livelihoods of people in the affected regions.
