Despite ongoing road safety campaigns, Hyderabad registers an alarming number of drunk driving cases, with 105 apprehended in a recent city-wide operation. 17 of these drivers have been jailed and await their driving licenses to be confiscated.
Last Saturday, the Hyderabad Police conducted a city-wide operation to curb drunk driving as people celebrated the new year. The efforts resulted in the apprehension of 105 drivers. The operation aimed to create awareness about drunk driving and to enforce the law for the safety of all road users.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mr. Ravinder, commented that, "It is heartening to see that citizens are becoming more aware of the dangers of drunk driving, and we will continue to enforce the law to make our roads safer for everyone."
The operation was conducted by the traffic police across all the 17 circles of the Hyderabad Police, covering major junctions and other important locations. The police officials conducted the operation with the help of breathalyzer devices to check the sobriety of the drivers.
Mr. Ravinder further added that the traffic police will continue to enforce the law against drunk driving and will also continue to create awareness among the public through road safety campaigns to discourage drunk driving and promote safe driving practices.
The operation was conducted as a part of the nationwide drive against drunk driving, which is organised by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways every year to prevent road accidents and save lives. The operation was a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the consequences of drunk driving.
As we move forward, let's hope that stories like these continue to raise awareness and encourage people to think twice before getting behind the wheel after drinking.
