Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen Beat Eintracht Frankfurt On Kasper Hjulmand Debut

German giants Bayer Leverkusen scored three goals in eight second-half minutes to reignite their season with a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

A much-needed win for Bayer Leverkusen kicked off under new manager Kasper Hjulmand, who joined the club from Aarhus GF in the Danish Superliga. It was the visitors who started the game brightly, with captain Christopher Lenz deflecting a goal-bound header from Djibril Sow just wide in the 12th minute.

Eintracht Frankfurt continued to dominate possession but failed to capitalize on their early dominance. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counter-attack, and so it was against the run of play when they took the lead just before the half-hour mark.

Impressive wing-back Mitchel Bakker delivered an inch-perfect cross for Czech forward Patrik Schick, who effortlessly headed home his first goal of the season. The hosts almost doubled their lead five minutes before the break when Schick forced a good save from Felix Horn.

The second goal would come for Bayer Leverkusen just after the restart as veteran Spaniard Alejandro Grimaldo cut inside from the left wing before firing a wonderful strike into the top corner.

Any hopes of a Frankfurt comeback were extinguished in the 58th minute when Serbian international Filip Kostic fouled Jeremie Frimpong in the area, giving away a penalty. Schick stepped up and fired home his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.

The game was put beyond all doubt mere minutes later as Grimaldo scored his second of the game, applying a cool finish to make it 4-0 after being picked out by a precise Bakker cross.

Frankfurt substitute Sam Lammers scored a late consolation goal in the 87th minute, slotting home after a brilliant run and cutback from Kostic, but it was little more than a consolation as Bayer Leverkusen secured the three points.
