Crime rising in Bihar, Nitish Kumar-led NDA govt targeted

Despite Nitish Kumar's image of crime reduction, the Bihar alliance of JD(U), BJP, and others has faced criticism for a spike in crime over the past year. This comes as a surprise given Kumar's robust messaging on law and order throughout his career.

Last year, Bihar witnessed a staggering 67% increase in kidnapping cases, 38% in cybercrime, and 21% in murders. Of these, just 4.5% of reported cybercrime cases resulted in convictions the lowest among all states.

Tejaswhi Yadav, leader of the opposition, blames the government's incompetence for the rising crime rate. He cited a lack of public safety, poor law and order, and inadequate police investigation and action.

Yadav said: "Despite the rise in crime, the government appears more concerned with congratulatory messages and posting photos on social media platforms."

The state government has responded by pointing to various infrastructure projects and promising that public safety is a priority.

Despite this, critics (and even some members of the NDA) believe that the state government needs to do more to address these issues and counteract the rising crime rate.
