Hyderabad's kidney patients, their smiles a little wider and their faces a little brighter, turned up in large numbers at the recently concluded NephroPlus Aashayein event, which aimed to create a platform for those suffering from kidney-related ailments to find hope and support.
Among the attendees was Raja Reddy, a retired banker undergoing dialysis for the past 15 years. "It's not just the medication and treatment that matters; mental support is equally important to endure this long battle," he said at the event. And it was precisely this kind of support that the event aimed to provide.
Held at Lamakaan, Hyderabad, on October 3, the event included not just medical and wellness camps but also fun activities like musical chair competitions and lucky draws, aimed at fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among patients, their families, and friends.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Tahira Rahman, Principal Secretary, Telangana, said, "Events like these make patients feel that they are not battling their problems alone."
Over 250 kidney patients and their families attended the event, which also saw the presence of Dr. Narendra Mohanty, Unit Head, Apollo Dialysis Centre, Hyderabad.
"Patients felt reassured that they were not the only ones battling these issues," Dr. Mohanty said, "such events help in building confidence and forging a fighting spirit amongst the patients and their families."
The event concluded with the distribution of tokens of encouragement to the attendees, serving as a reminder that a little support can go a long way in making life a little easier for those battling chronic illnesses.
