UK Police Probe Rape Of British Sikh Woman As 'Racially Aggravated Assault'

UK police are treating the rape of a British Sikh woman in Oldbury, West Midlands, as a "racially aggravated assault."

The victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was raped at around 12:30 am on Wednesday, August 25, 2022, after meeting a woman named Nicole on an online dating app. The assailant had allegedly catfished the victim, pretending to be Nicole on the dating app before agreeing to meet in person.

The victim, who was uninjured, reported the assault to police immediately after the attack. Following an investigation by the West Midlands Police, the rape is being treated as a racially aggravated offense due to the offense being motivated by the victim's ethnicity and religion. The investigation into the attack is still ongoing.

Detective Inspector Harry Little, of the West Midlands Police, commented on the distressing incident:

"This is a disgusting and upsetting crime which has left the victim shocked and devastated. My thoughts are with her as she recovers from this horrific experience.

We treat crimes of this nature with the utmost seriousness and are doing everything we can to find the person responsible. We have a large team of detectives working on this investigation and are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry."

The police have asked for any potential witnesses to come forward with information that could help identify the attacker, especially anyone who was in the Chapel Street area of Oldbury around the time of the crime on August 25, 2022.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the West Midlands Police, or they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
