Boy, 13, rape victim as theatre staffer 'molested him for weeks'

A maintenance worker at a Hyderabad theatre has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old boy over several weeks. The teenager had reportedly gone to the cinema alone on multiple occasions to watch movies, catching the attention of the worker.

According to the police report, the worker would frequently invite the boy to the staff room on the premises, where he would serve him food and later assault him. The boy's parents filed a complaint on December 28, alleging that their son was missing.

They told the police that they had searched for him at his favourite spots and friends' houses before filing the complaint. The boy was located at a hospital the next day, where he had gone for a medical check-up, and was found to have been sexually abused.

The worker, who is also an aspiring actor, was arrested on charges of rape under the POCSO Act and sent to prison. Further investigations are underway.

"He took advantage of the boy coming to the theatre alone and would invite him to the staff room to serve him food and later assault him," said Chakravarthy Goud, Hyberadrab's station head officer.

"The boy was a regular at the theatre, and the worker would often call him to the staff room, where he would drug his food before assaulting him," he added.

After hearing the boy's story, authorities urged parents to be cautious and speak to their children about their friendships and relationships with adults.
