Hyderabad Matrimonial Scam Highlights Danger of Online Marriage Platforms

Hyderabad police recently uncovered a shocking online matrimonial scam worth Rs 25 lakh, alerting young people to the lurking dangers of online marriage platforms. The primary suspects, Aneesa Mohammad Yaseen Hundekar and Mohammed Abdul Aamer, were arrested, with Zohar Fathima still at large. The group operated through attractive profiles on Instagram and Islamic matrimony WhatsApp groups, gaining the trust of victims before pleading for money on fraudulent grounds.

The scam was exposed when a man intending to find a marriage partner was victimized on the Instagram account "khoobsurat.rishte," which used photos belonging to a well-known Pakistani social media figure, Parwsha Shah.

The investigation revealed that the suspects had been using the manipulated photos to establish false identities. They would then add these fake identities to WhatsApp groups to post about matrimonial interests, luring victims with the promise of suitable marriage partners. The victims were persuaded to share personal information and eventually defrauded of substantial amounts.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police advised the public to be vigilant when using social media platforms, stressing the necessity of verifying the authenticity of matrimonial proposals thoroughly. They urged individuals to be cautious of requests for money and to refrain from sharing personal information with unknown contacts online.
