Davis Cup: India's Sriram Balaji-Rithvik Bollipalli Lose, Switzerland Stay Alive

India are still in the driving seat against Switzerland in their Davis Cup tie, but the European side remain alive after a closely contested doubles rubber on Saturday.

The Indian duo of N Sriram Balaji and Rithvik Bollipalli suffered a narrow 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 defeat to the Swiss pair of Dominic Barretto and Leo Zimmerman in a thrilling deciding rubber.

With this result, India need just one point from the remaining two singles rubbers to secure their place in the 2023 Davis Cup Finals. The last time India defeated a European side in an away tie was in 1993 when Leander Paes and Ramesh Krishnan led the team to a 3-2 win over France.

Switzerland, who are looking to cause an upset on home soil, will rely on the formidable talents of Marc-Andrea Huesler and Dominic Barretto in their singles rubbers.

As per the current scenario, the Indian team is in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs, but it will rely on the back of some brilliant singles tennis by the experienced Ramkumar Ramanathan and the young Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
