Stalking, harassment case reveals lack of help for women's university students

Three men have been arrested for stalking and harassing women students of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Womens University in Hyderabad. The case reveals gaps in student support systems and underscores the need for heightened awareness and safety protocols on campus.

According to the Sultan Bazar police, the three accused obtained phone numbers of students through other offenders and harassed them over calls and WhatsApp. They questioned the students about personal matters and spread false information about missing students, triggering panic among the student body.

The case was registered following a complaint on September 5 by Vinita Pandey, Director of Student Affairs at the university, who reported the repeated harassment of students and the circulation of fake messages. The accused, Pilli Srinivas (23), Surampalli Venkateshwarla Vara Prasad (19), and Samudrala Harish (25), were produced before court on September 13 and remanded to judicial custody.

This case sheds light on the importance of addressing the specific needs of women students and ensuring their safety and well-being on campus. It underscores the crucial role women's education plays in our society and the need to create an environment that enables their full potential.

Let's hope necessary measures are taken to support these women and prevent such incidents in the future.
