A collaboration across Hyderabad Metro, BITS Pilani-Hyderabad Campus, Hyderabad Police, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay has borne fruit in the form of the Technologies for Urban Transit to Enhance Mobility and Safe Accessibility (TUTEM) app. This feature-rich application is designed to ensure women can travel safely from point to point, covering the entire journey from their front door to their final destination.
Hyderabad Metro MD NVS Reddy highlighted that the app would be especially helpful for women travellers feeling unsafe during some part of their journey. It offers a prompt alert system to the police control centre, along with family members and relatives. This new iteration of the TUTEM app promises to make the entire journey more secure and convenient.
Speaking at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus User Workshop, Professor V Ram Gopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, revealed that their technical experts were working to make the TUTEM initiative available in other cities across India in due course. Ensuring safe travel, especially during late-night hours, is a priority.
This collaborative effort between experts in technology and transportation ensures that women in Hyderabad will have a safer and more secure journey, from the moment they leave home until they reach their destination.
