For the first time in Indian sporting history, Athlete Sarvesh Kushare has made it to the final in the men's high jump T46/47 event at the World Athletics Championships.
The 26-year-old registered a jump of 2.25m to move into the final of the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Japan as one of the thirteen finalists who will compete for the medals.
Kushare's achievement is unprecedented as he became the first Indian to qualify for any athletics final at the World Championships. Previously, he had also participated in the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships.
"My family and coach motivated me a lot to achieve this milestone. It's a proud moment for me and my family, and I hope to make my country proud in the final as well," said Kushare, who trained at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Gandhinagar.
Before this, Muhammad Bashir Muhammad, a former Indian athlete, made it to the semifinals of the high jump event at the 2012 London Olympics.
Kushare is set to compete in the final on Sunday.
Let us all wish him the best and hope he brings back a medal!
