Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative's (IFFCO) Nellore Project Gains Fresh Momentum With Multi-Product SEZ

arduously, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO)'s ambitious project in Nellore is now finally gaining traction nearly three decades after acquiring 2,776 acres of land. Originally planned in 1996 as a gas-based urea manufacturing plant, the project encountered delays due to low international fertilizer prices and concerns over subsidy outflows. Rebranded as the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone (IKSEZ) in 2008, the initiative faced further controversy, which led to litigation and stalled progress.

However, clearing legal hurdles last year, IKSEZ is now repositioned as a multi-product SEZ. It aims to attract diverse industries beyond agriculture, including renewable energy, electric mobility, electronics, nanotechnology, IT/BPO, and light and heavy engineering. The zone has already attracted some major investors, such as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Power, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, and ADJ Brothers. With improved investor interest and strategic repositioning, IKSEZ is now seen as a potential hub for next-generation industries and a key industrial ecosystem in South India.

collector O Anand stated that with its infrastructure, location, and renewed momentum, IKSEZ is positioning itself as a key industrial ecosystem in south India. Let us hope that this momentum continues to thrive and flourish.
