Flooding feared as heavy rainfall hits Hyderabad

Flooding and waterlogging fears have been realized in Hyderabad, Telangana, as the city recorded its highest single-day rainfall in September in the last few years.

So far, two individuals have been reported missing and are believed to have been washed away by flooding in Afzalsagar. A search operation is continuing, although the individuals have not been located as of this writing.

Several parts of the city experienced waterlogging, with Boudha Nagar Community Hall in Musheerabad receiving the highest rainfall at 124 mm. Jawahar Nagar Community Hall and MCH Colony and Library Building also recorded rainfall exceeding 100 mm.

Disaster management, traffic police, and civic teams worked to clear waterlogged areas and restore smooth traffic flow. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal oversaw operations from the command control center and confirmed that teams were actively diverting water and managing traffic.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rainfall in the region over the next day or so. Officials are monitoring the situation closely.

Mayor Gadwal has directed officials to use more motors to clear water swiftly in view of the continuing rain.
