Politics of extremities is hurting OBC students

warns Devendra Fadnavis as Maratha quota storm intensifies.

The former Maharashtra chief minister and leader of the BJP's saffron wing, Devendra Fadnavis, has reportedly warned of the consequences of political extremities on backward class students.

Fadnavis expressed his views in the context of the ongoing debate over granting a reservation to the Maratha community, stating that the politics of extremities within the reservation policy was harming OBC students.

The leader cited the example of the state's OBC students who had to compete with students from the general category for engineering and medical seats.

He claimed that OBC students who had scored higher than general category students were denied seats due to a lack of availability.

According to Fadnavis, this issue strengthens the case for increasing the number of seats in educational institutions so that OBC students can benefit from reservations without overcrowding.

The former CM advised that the state government should work toward increasing spending on education and improving infrastructure.

Fadnavis's remarks came as the BJP's saffron wing intensified its protest over the Maratha reservation issue.

The wing staged a protest in Mumbai on Thursday, September 15, 2022, demanding the implementation of the Maratha quota without any further delays.

Over 1,000 activists gathered at Mumbai's Azad Maidan, raising demands for resolving the Maratha quota issue and protesting against the state government's "failure" to implement the same.
