Former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty Appears Before ED, Urvashi Rautela Summoned Too

Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty appeared before the ED on Monday, becoming the latest in a long list of Bengali celebrities to do so, in connection with alleged links to the illegal betting app 1xBet. Meanwhile, actress Urvashi Rautela, who was seen in Bollywood films like 'Great Grand Masti' and 'Hate Story 4', has also been summoned in the same case.

Chakraborty, who was TMC'sMPL, arrived at the ED office in Kolkata at around 12 noon. just a day after she was summoned. Chakraborty, who was elected to the lower house of Parliament from the Jadavpur constituency in Kolkata, reportedly has had alleged links with the sand mafia as well a charge that she has denied.

ED officials said that they had questioned Chakraborty about her links with the owners of the 1xBet app, her statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The central probe agency is investigating the betting app 1xBet based on an FIR lodged by the Sikkim Police. The company has been accused of illegally operating in the country, some officials said.

A few days ago, the ED also questioned actor Arjun Rampal and his partner, South Indian actress Gabriella Demetriades, over their alleged connection to the same case. Actor Raveena Tandon and filmmaker Farah Khan were also summoned by the ED in this case but they were allowed to leave after questioning continued beyond the scheduled time.

The investigation into the betting app case has snared several Bengali actors and politicians, including Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who was seen in 'Kahaani' and 'Mardaani', and TMC leader Derek O'Brien.

Basically, the entire Bollywood and Tollywood are now on ED's radar, and it would be interesting to see what the investigation uncovers.

Meanwhile, Rautela, who was reportedly vacationing in the Maldives, arrived in Mumbai on Sunday and will soon be appearing before the ED. The actress was questioned previously in the same case by the Delhi Police last year.
