Somasila Reservoir May Receive Adequate Water

Due To Rainfall In Coming Months

Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, the Endowment Minister of Nellore, predicts that the Somasila Reservoir may receive adequate water due to the expected heavy rainfall in October and November. He stressed that the administration is currently working to store 74 tons of cubic feet of water against the reservoir's original capacity of 77 tons. He also stated that due to the heavy rainfall expected in the upper lands of Kadapa and Kurnool districts, the reservoir could receive more than 1 lakh cusecs of water.

The minister further stated that water would be supplied to Kandelu reservoir, Telugu Ganga Canal, Kanupuru, and Kaluvai canals to supply water to drought-hit areas such as Marripadu, Vinjamur, and Duthakur through Anam Sanjeevareddy and Hypower canals. The minister directed the administration to monitor the situation to avoid flooding in surrounding villages.

More than 1 lakh acres of land are expected to be benefited from this initiative in the current season.

The minister reminded the officials of the importance of managing the water supply and precautions to be taken in case of a flood. The Somasila Project Chairman, Kesava Chowdari, and Somasila SE Venkataramana Reddy, along with other representatives of farmer associations, were present at the event.
