Shoaib Akhtar Disappointed with 'Childish' Indian Team Conduct, Trivialises Pahalgam Terror Attack

Former Speed Star Shoaib Akhtar criticized the Indian team for their "childish" behavior in celebrating their Asia Cup win against Pakistan, trivializing the terror attack in Pahalgam as "ladai jhagde." The comment has received significant backlash from Pakistan supporters.

Yesterday evening, fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar gave a piece of his mind on the Indian cricket team's behavior during and after their Asia Cup triumph against Pakistan yesterday in Dubai. While the Pakistani team showed grace in defeat, the Indians engaged in exuberant celebrations, with tons of pushing, hugging, and kissing, actions that Shoaib views as highly immature.

"I was disappointed in the way they were behaving like children. A match is not won by doing push-ups in the crease. Everyone was talking about how educated and cultured we are, but we have all become like them (India)..." said Shoaib on a local sports channel.

He further criticized the Indian team for disregarding the September 18 terror attack in Pahalgam, where eight people were killed by militants, including six pilgrims and a policeman. Over 100 were injured. The attack was condemned by many, including the Pakistan Cricket Board.

"They (Indian cricketers) are not remembering that only a few days ago, terrorists killed unarmed Kashmiris in Pahalgam. Someone needs to tell them that this is not Kashmir; this is a battlefield. When you go to a battlefield, you shake hands with your enemy and salute him..." said Shoaib, as quoted by Geo News. The comment on shaking hands with the enemy receives criticism from many Pakistan supporters, who viewed it as a trivialization of a serious attack.

Despite the criticism, Shoaib's opinion taps into a wider issue of player behavior, with many complaining about the overly sexualization of celebrations by the Indian team, from scantily clad uniforms to inappropriate gestures.

We will have to wait and see if the Indians change their behavior on the field and let their play do the talking, or if more scandalous celebrations are in store for fans.
